Responsibilities

RESEARCH: The successful candidate will develop a vibrant, independent and externally-funded research program with a record of ongoing refereed publications in high quality journals. Collaborations with colleagues within the Department of Biology, other departments and Centers at Baylor and beyond Baylor is highly desired. Startup funds and independent research space are available to support this position within the 500,000 ft2 “state of the art” Baylor Science Building.

STUDENT MENTORING: The applicant will be expected to mentor graduate students and involve undergraduates in research. Baylor University offers the Ph.D. in Biology, the Master of Science in Biology, and the Master of Arts in Biology-Health Concentration.

TEACHING: Teaching is expected and assignments will include undergraduate courses in our core sequence and upper level undergraduate and graduate courses in areas of expertise.

Required Qualifications

Baylor seeks to fill a tenured/tenure-track faculty position in the area of Tropical Disease Biology within the Department of Biology. We are pleased to continue an expansion of our research and education mission related to this field. We seek an individual who has a well-established track record of research on tropical disease pathogens and enthusiasm for teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Candidates with basic and translational research expertise in diseases transmitted to humans by invertebrate or vertebrate vectors including (but not limited to) Lymphatic filariasis, Leishmaniasis, Schistosomiasis, Toxoplasmosis, Trypanosomiasis, or Malaria are especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to establish a competitive and externally funded research program in an area of science relevant to human health that contributes to broader departmental goals. Enthusiasm for interdisciplinary research and development of new collaborations within and beyond Baylor University is essential to this position.

Applicants must have an earned Ph.D. by the first day of employment and provide evidence of significant research experience supported by an excellent publication record. The ideal candidate should apply innovative approaches to develop an independent research program with potential for multidisciplinary collaboration. Regardless of rank and area of specialization, enthusiasm for interdisciplinary research and development of new collaborations within (e.g. Departments of Biology, Chemistry/Biochemistry, Environmental Science, the Graduate Program in Biomedical Studies, the Center for Reservoir and Aquatic Systems Research) and beyond Baylor University (e.g. National School of Tropical Medicine at the Baylor College of Medicine, Baylor Scott and White) is essential to this position.
